Gensler's Long Hiking Trips
My Long Hiking Trips
- Appalachian Trail: Georgia to Maine in 1977/79 (2040 miles in 85 days, 24 miles/day). I did major parts again in 84, 90, 95, and 97.
- Pacific Crest Trail: Mexico to Canada in 1978/80 (2420 miles in 92 days, 27 miles/day). I did major parts again in 88.
- Ontario Bruce Trail: Hiked in 1979 (420 miles in 14 days, 30 miles/day). I'm the second person to do the whole trail.
- Wisconsin Ice Age Trail: Hiked in 1983 (1000 miles in 33 days, 30 miles/day).
My favorite long trails are the first two - the Appalachian and the Pacific Crest trails. I've often returned to these trails for further hikes of 300 to 1100 miles. Ah, for the peaceful and beauty of nature - and the complete break from the normal affairs of life!
