Buckskin-Paria slot canyon - Thumbnails
These are pictures of my June 2002 backpack trip with Earl Spurgin and Sharon Kaye. We hiked what is said to be the world's longest slot canyon, starting from Wire Pass and continuing through Buchskin Gorge and the Paria River, to the Colorado River at Lee's Ferry; while we started in Utah, most of the hike was in Arizona. The canyon was so narrow during the first day that you could often touch both sides; after that, it widened up a bit. Since it was a very dry year, we avoided the deep pools that you normally have to wade or swim in Buckskin. Our hike was completely dry until just before the Buckskin-Paria confluence; after that, we had a steady and increasing source of water.
