The golden rule gives
This view claims "If you consent to the idea of A being done to you in an exactly similar situation, then it's permissible for you to do A to X." This can lead to absurd results when the person has evil desires.
The golden rule gives
This view claims "It's permissible for you to do A to X, only if you consent to the idea of A being done to you in an exactly similar situation." This is equivalent to saying "If you don't consent to the idea of A being done to you in an exactly similar situation, then you ought not to do A to X." These can lead to absurd or self-contradictory results when the person has evil or inconsistent desires.
The golden rule gives
The golden rule doesn't give necessary or sufficient conditions for individual permissible actions. Rather, it forbids certain inconsistent combinations. And satisfying GR is a necessary condition for being conscientious and impartial.
