What is your answer?
Golden rule arguments have you ask
{ 1 } - "If I were in X's place, how would I then desire to be treated?"
{ 2 } - "How do I now desire that I be treated if I were in X's place?"
{ 3 } - Both -- the two formulations mean the same thing.

You missed the point.
Suppose that you are about to spank your three-year-old child. If you were in the exact place of this child, you wouldn't then (as a three year old) want to be spanked. So the golden rule (thusly misinterpreted) would tell you not to spank your child.

2 is correct!

Suppose that you want to spank your three-year-old child. You have to endorse (1):
(1) I presently (as an adult) desire that, if I were in the place of this three year old then I'd be spanked.
(2) If I were in the exact place of this three year old, then I'd (as a three year old) desire to be spanked.

You missed the point. One formulation is much better than the other.
